Lincoln Plan
I feel that the Lincoln plan was the best Reconstruction plan for several reasons. This plan outlawed slavery, was not strict, and gave the people some freedom. I also endorsed the Lincoln plan during Reconstruction because it reunited the states the quickest, and in a polite manner. Unlike the other plans, this plan avoided controversy among the states.
Freedmen's Bureau
I continue to support the Freedmen's Bureau because of the potential it has. Although, the agency has many flaws, the mission statement of the Bureau is positive. If this agency made major improvements, such as hiring more agents, they would be much more effective in helping the newly freed men. Overall, the biggest impact this agency has had is the founding of schools. They have given many African-Americans the opportunity to earn an Education.
Military Occupation in South
The military occupying the South was appropriate. This provided the newly freed slaves a safer environment. The military enforced the rules, such as the 13th Amendment, and they also forced South Carolina to write a new constitution. Even if soldiers were killed, and the South resented their occupation, it showed will and determination for the safety of Freedmen. For these reasons, I believe military should continue to occupy the Southern states.
Constitution of 1868
I strongly support the Constitution of 1868. This constitution provides more stability for all races. This includes the right to vote for all males, the opportunity of public education, bases representation on population alone, and abolishes property qualifications for holding office.
Agriculture Vs. Industrial
I think that South Carolina should continue to avert their attention to agriculture because this has become a tradition. If the state of South Carolina began to use manufacturing, the entire country would be affected. Our country needs a balanced amount of agriculture and manufacturing states, because this allows trading to operate better. Although farmers do not have slaves as a labor force anymore, farmers are striving to complete the job, but are making a limited profit. Industrialization should be limited to the north and should not become part of the south's economy due to the lack of agricultural focused states.
|
I do not believe that the textile industry could help South Carolina. This would increase the amount of disease being spread through our towns. Disease being spread would only decrease our population, causing several problems. Also, this would lower the value of agricultural jobs. Many people would revert to working in the textile industry, lowering the amount of farmers. As an agricultural state. We should focus on having more agricultural trading than textile trading.
